We live in a cool mountain area of Panama called El Valle de Anton. Our lusciously verdant gardens as well as our colorful surrounding mountains have definitely influenced my painting.
Because of this cool, humid weather, I paint with acrylics. In order to achieve that wonderful buttery feel and looks of oil paints I blend acrylic paint with a matte medium. It works beautifully.
Color is my passion. I enjoy mixing and blending different color tones. I start a painting with a color scheme and a design or an idea in mind. Once the color begins to flow, the painting seems to take on a life of its own. What a magnificent, breathtaking feeling!
I am caught in the mystery of it all and become merely a participant in the scheme of things. A perfect example of this is my painting “Crystalline Waters”. I started with a drawing of 3 leaves which I called ‘mama, papa, and baby’-- this evolved into Crystalline Waters.
I believe that my music and dancing background has also influenced my painting. Rhythm and sensuality seems to create flow, cohesion and balance. It is magical!
My painting style has evolved and seems to have developed into a strange mixture of impressionism with a little abstract or even a bit of surrealism at times.
